TEAM CANADA makes its mark at the World Muay Thai Amateur Championships in Bangkok Thailand!!

Ajahn Suchart, one of the coaches for TEAM CANADA proudly shares the results of Canada's fighters at the World Amateurs:

Margaret Mroziewicz beats girl from Greece - due to administrative issues, was unable to compete further

Ruel Copeland fought 4 matches to make it to the finals for the Gold. Ruel won the silver medal against a very experienced Swedish athlete

Daniel Jean Micheal, with less than 5 fights experience went to Thailand to compete. He won the semi-finals and went to the finals for the Gold. Competing against an athlete representing Iran who had over 70 fights, Daniel fought to the end and came away with the Silver medal in his weight division

Other Canadian medals include:
Mike Perez won Gold in the males 135lbs category... female athlete from Regina won a GOLD and athelets from Alberta brought home medals too. Tyler from Newfoundland won his match, but had to withdraw due to an arm injury. He brings home a Bronze medal. More details to follow as results and names are announced.

All of Canada is proud of Siam No.1 athletes for their contributions to the sport of Muay Thai!!

Green Shorts Grading

After 20 years of establishing sport in Ontario, Ajahn Suchart feels it is time to recognize a new level in Muay Thai. Traditionally, we have recognized 2 levels:

Yellow shorts signify beginner -  These students are new to basic Muay Thai technique and are developing the appropriate conditioning for Muay Thai.  A minimum of 6 months is required at this level before attempting the Blue short test.

Blue shorts signify intermediate - These students high achieved a high level of conditioning and have understood and demonstrated the 4 basic weapons in traditional, proper form.  This level allows students to spar, compete, assit Krus and become Kru.  A minimum of 1.5 - 2 years with Blue shorts before Green shorts are tested.

The new and next level:
Green shorts - Students at this level are advanced.  This includes a combination of: excellent cardiovascular conditioning, mastery of basic skills, development of more advanced techniques, fight experience, and teaching experience.
Green shorts are earned and based on one's deep understanding of Muay Thai and not simply degree of performance in the above given areas.  Ajahn Suchart recognizes and values the strengths each individual brings to Muay Thai and equally values the abilities required to: fight, teach, and train.  Based on traditional Muay Thai development, technical skill, understanding of sport and culture, demonstration of Muay Thai are all elements of this level.

After many years only a fine few have officially achieved Green level, including:  John Bourgiddes, Clifton Brown, Ruben Yanez, and Darwin Miranda. Ajahn Suchart has selected the first official group of his students whom he knows are ready and deserving of this level of recognition.

You have been invited by Ajahn Suchart to take part in this historic test... a test that marks the recognition of a new class of Muay Thai students.  A test that symbolizes that learning in Muay Thai does not stop at Blue shorts or at level of Kru... learning in Muay Thai continues.  You have been recognized as a student, fighter, Kru who has shown commmitment, skill, knowledge of Muay Thai and should have Green level shorts. Congratulations!

The Green short is a recognized level of achievement in Muay Thai. This level in not a "Kru" level. Kru signifies a level of experience that places great emphasis on teaching and comes with other levels of recognition. You can earn Green shorts but not have earned the rank of Kru. However,  Ajahn Suchart believes all his Krus should have official Green short level and it is mandatory to officially earn this level as a Kru.
Also, if you are a Kru, and have advanced blue shorts (or poo choi) in your location whom you feel are ready for recognition of their advanced Muay Thai, please forward the nomination to Ajahn Suchart.

This test will only occur twice a year and each time, only those who meet the criteria will be able to take the test.

Blue shorts who continue to train hard, or fight, or teach will now be recognized through this new level.  First, Ajahn wants his Krus, senior students, advanced fighters to earn this level to understand and be recognized as the first.

I love to go to Trail to have my students fight on my good, good friend Glen's card. The show was excellent.

Congratulations to my fighters: Ilija, Fawaz, Daniel, and Rob X and Kru Darwin fighter Nigel... all my fighters fought so well and they come out victorious.
Daniel got a TKO in the 1st round with a beautiful knee.
Fawaz fought the full rounds and clearly won his fight.
Ilija lost by decision, but even so, his technique was so beautiful and I was so impressed.
Rob X. fought a very tough opponent
Kru Darwin student won his fight too.

Matt Embree, Aaron Castellive, and Ruel Copeland - all Siam №1 top fighters fley to Mexico this past week along with cornerman and teammate Kosta Rakic to compete in what was Mexico's all time best amateur fight card.

Matt Embree and Aaron Castellvi walked away with TKO wins. Both fighters used proper and traditional Muay Thai technique and cut thier opponents with elbows. Beautiful representation of Muay Thai. Ruel fought a tough match and showed excellent skill and technique. He lost his match by decision.

Congratulations to all fighters and cornerman Kosta Rakic for once again showing the world that Master Suchart and Siam №1 CANADA are true ambassadors of traditional and effective Muay Thai!

Matt Embree, the "Prince of Oshawa", a 3 year veteran fighter of Siam №1 capitalizes on a the title "Northern Thailand Champion" for the 125 lbs. division in Northern Thailand.

Matt has been in Thailand for 3 months, since his participation in "The Muay Thai World Amateurs-A Class" in Busan Korea.
